NEW DELHI, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- India Wednesday refuted Pakistan's latest claim that its security forces seized India-made arms and equipment from the Taliban stronghold of South Waziristan, saying it's "baseless."

"There is no factual basis for these reports," Indian External Affairs Secretary Nirupama Rao said in the national capital.

Instead, Rao said that one of India's primary goals was to have a peaceful and stable neighborhood.

"Our position is very clear. We want stable and peaceful Pakistan and we will work consistently towards that," she said.

Claiming that Taliban and Al-Qaida still pose a great threat to South Asia, the External Affairs Secretary said, "Terrorism remains essential challenge to the regional security. There is a real challenge posed by the resurgence of Taliban and Al-Qaida. There is a need for the international community to re-commit its assistance to Afghanistan."

"There is a growing consensus that the increase in terror activities in Afghanistan is linked to the support available in the contiguous areas," she said.
