China vows utmost efforts to rescue missing Russian tourists

    BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese government official Tuesday said the authorities would spare no efforts to rescue the two Russian tourists missing in an avalanche in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

    "We have informed the Russian embassy in Beijing of details of the incident, and we will closely follow the rescue mission and coordinate related departments to deal with the aftermath," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu at a regular press briefing.  Full story

China congratulates Karzai on re-election as Afghan president

   BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday congratulated Afghan President Hamid Karzai on his re-election and pledged to continue support for the war-torn country's reconstruction.

   "We respect the choice of the Afghan people, and we express our congratulations to Mr. Karzai on his election as the president of Afghanistan for a new term," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu at a regular press conference. Full story

President Hu visit to advance links with Malaysia: spokesman

   BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao's state visit to Malaysia next week will play an important role in advancing relations between the two countries, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said Tuesday.

   Hu is to visit Malaysia from Nov. 10 at the invitation of of Malaysian Supreme Head of State Mizan Zainal Abidin.Full story

China voices firm opposition to Dalai Lama's visit to China-India border region

   BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- China firmly opposes the Dalai Lama's planned visit to a China-India border region, said a Foreign Ministry spokesman here Tuesday.

"China's stance on the eastern section of the China-India border is consistent, and we firmly oppose the Dalai Lama's visit to the region," said Ma Zhaoxu at a regular news briefing.  Full story
