BEIRUT, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Suleiman said here on Monday that there will be no "real solution" in the Middle East without resolving the issue of Palestinian refugees, especially those in Lebanon, the country's state news agency reported.
Suleiman made the remarks after meeting with visiting Swedish Speaker Peter Westerberg and his delegation, saying that the condition of Lebanon did not allow Palestinians to settle down in the country, as Lebanese themselves are immigrating abroad to find jobs.
There are now around 400,000 Palestinians refugees living in Lebanon, most of them in camps set by UN Refugees Works Agency (UNRWA).
Suleiman thanked Sweden for its contribution during the Stockholm conference that followed the July 2006 War and was held in accord with the UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to provide financial and humanitarian assistance to Lebanon.
Israel and Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah fought a 34-day war in 2006, which was ended by the UN Resolution 1701.
Westerberg said Lebanon plays an essential role in finding solutions to regional and global issues. He added that Lebanon seta model for Europe in the co-existence of different religions and sects.
