PYONGYANG, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Kim Jong-Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has called on his people to increase agricultural production, the official KCNA news agency reported on Monday.
While visiting Unhung Cooperative Farm in Thaechon County, North Phyongan Province, Kim said it was necessary to fully implement the Workers Party's policy on agricultural revolution, especially on the development of agro-science and technology.
Improving agricultural production was one of the DPRK's most important tasks for "opening the gate to a thriving nation," the KCNA quoted the top leader as saying.
Kim also called for promoting "double cropping" and vigorously mechanizing farm work to solve manpower shortage.
The report did not specify the date of the visit.
The DPRK was currently undertaking a "100-day campaign" aimed at boosting its economy.
