BANGKOK, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- A security volunteer was killed on Monday in Thailand's southernmost province of Pattani.

As the victim with his motorbike was on his way home after buying goods from a village market in the city of Pattani, two men on another motorbike drove by and greeted the victim, Thai News Agency quoted a local police official as saying.

After greeting, one of the men used a gun to shoot the victim, Mr. Wae-sa-ma-air Ab-dul-ha-noong, the police official said.

Mr. Ab-dul-ha-noong died at the scene immediately, while the two men snatched a gun of Mr. Ab-dul-ha-noong and fled.

The police official said it was possible that the violence occurred due to personal conflict, or it was created by suspected insurgents.

Thailand's deep South comprises mainly the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwas, and some four districts of Song-kla province.

Over 3,500 people have been killed by the daily violence attack by the suspected separatists since January 2004.
