HONG KONG, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale occurred off Ryukyu Islands at 15:07 p.m. Friday local time (0707 GMT), according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory on Friday.

    The epicenter was initially determined to be at 29.1 degrees north latitude and 130.1 degrees east longitude, about 280 kilometers south of Kagoshima, Japan, it said.

    There was no report of injury or death thus far. Tsunami alert was not issued.
