VIENNA, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The dialogue between the Austrian Student Union and the country's education minister on Thursday ended without apparent results.

Students in Austria have been demonstrating for the past nine days to demand more investment in the country's education sector. More than 10,000 students took to the street in Vienna on Wednesday.

Austrian Student Union Chairman Sigrid Maurer said after the talks that Science Minister Johannes Hahn's statements at the dialogue were "vague and without vision."

The student leader therefore called on Prime Minister Werner Faymann and Finance Minister Josef Proll "to take the education agenda into their hands."

The prime minister has recently shown an understanding of the student protests. He said Thursday that optimal conditions at universities served both the interests of students and faculties and those of the nation as well.

Students in other Austrian cities and towns like Graz, Salzburg and Innsbruck were also protesting.
