BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said here Thursday that the Chinese embassy in Iraq has beefed up security following the recent devastating suicide bombings in Baghdad.

    Two car bombs coordinately exploded in downtown Baghdad Sunday, claiming at least 155 lives and left over 500 others wounded.

    Some facilities of the Chinese embassy based in the Al Mansour Hotel were also damaged. Two Chinese nationals working in the hotel were injured.

    "China opposes terrorism in any form, and hopes that the Iraqi government and its people will overcome difficulties and realize national security, stability and development at an early date," Ma said at a regular press briefing.

    "We have asked the Chinese embassy, institutions and nationals in Iraq to stay alert and take safety measures," Ma said, noting that the Chinese leaders have conveyed sympathy to them.
