HAVANA, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Margaret Chan expressed her admiration for Cuban healthcare system during her meeting with former Cuban leader Fidel Castro on Tuesday, an official statement said Wednesday.
Chan appreciated the work being done by Cuba to combat the A/H1N1 influenza and expressed the WHO's support for the Cuban campaign against the pandemic, the statement said.
Chan and Castro also discussed climate change and its impact on the environment.
On Wednesday, Chan said Castro showed "truly impressive" knowledge on healthcare issues during their meeting and looked to be in good health.
On Cuba's medical facilities and healthcare system, she said that "in a country of this level of economic development, to be able to achieve those very good health indices is not easy."
