Ecuador to compete with 438 athletes at Bolivarian Games

    QUITO, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- President of the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE) Danilo Carrera said on Monday that Ecuador will compete at the 17th Bolivarian Sports Games with 438 athletes in 33 sports.

    The Bolivarian Games will be hosted from Nov. 14 to 24 in Sucre, Bolivia, however the weightlifting competitions will start on Oct.30 and some competitions will be hosted also in Bolivian cities of Santa Cruz, Cochabamba and Tarija.

    Ecuador will be the alternative-host, hosting competitions in Quito, Guayaquil and Salinas, while Peru will be the other alternative host, with competitions in Lima.

    Ecuador will compete in athletics, basketball, pool, bowling, boxing, rowing, cycling (BMX, MTB, trail and route), equestrian, fencing, soccer, soccer indoors (futsal), artistic and rhythm gymnastics, judo, karate, weight lifting, wrestling, swimming, racquetball, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, archery, triathlon and volleyball (sand and room).

    Ecuador will also compete on nautical ski, skiing (trail and route), softball, squash, surf, archery, sailing, badminton and canoeing.

    "The main goal is to surpass the medals we won in the past Bolivarian Games (228) and continue being the third place of the general board," the COE director of the Methodology Technical Department, Luis Zambrano said.
