DAMASCUS, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Syria Monday strongly condemned Israel's "flagrant violations" against Al-Aqsa Mosque after Sunday' s clashes between Israeli police and Arab protestors at the holy compound in Jerusalem.

"Israel is scheming to judaize Jerusalem and demolish Al-Aqsa Mosque, which are criminal acts against Muslim sanctities and the Arab heritage," the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement also urged the international community "and those who are willing to achieve peace in the Middle East to condemn Israeli violations and make efforts to stop them."

On early Sunday, Israeli police and Arab protestors clashed at the holy compound in Jerusalem, highlighting an already inflammable atmosphere around the site sacred to both Jews and Muslims. ¡¡
