PYONGYANG, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a memorial ceremony on Sunday to mark the 59th anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army's entering into the country to fight the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea.

Hundreds of DPRK people and officials, including Yang Hyong Sop, vice president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Choe Chang Sik, minister of public health and chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK-China Friendship Association, and Pak Jae Gyong, vice minister of the People's Armed Forces, attended the ceremony.
The official Rodong Sinmun daily carried an article on Sunday, expressing respect for the Chinese volunteer soldiers and the Chinese people and vowing to work to consolidate the DPRK-China friendship.
It said the Chinese People's Volunteer Army made a great contribution to the victory of the DPRK's liberation movement and their merits and fearless spirit will be inscribed forever in the history of the DPRK-China friendship.
To consolidate and develop bilateral relations serves the interests of the two peoples, and is conducive to the peace and stability of Asia and the world at large, it added.
Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, paid tribute to a Chinese volunteer soldiers' cemetery in Pyongyang after participating in the ceremony held at the Friendship Tower.
