Major earthquake hits Indonesia

    HONG KONG, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richer scale hit southeast of Ambon, Indonesia, at 10:47 p.m (0247 GMT) Saturday, according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The epicenter was initially determined to be over Banda Sea (6.2S, 130.5E).
