MADRID, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid wasted no time in replacing Abel Resino as first team coach and named Quique Sanchez Flores as his successor late on Friday night.
Abel's sacking was made official on Friday morning and Quique named as his successor before the day was out.
He has signed a contract with the club until the end of the current season and will be presented to the press on Monday morning.
That means assistant coach Santi Denia will be in the dugout for Saturday's home game against Mallorca.
Quique arrives at the Vicente Calderon Stadium after having coached Getafe, Valencia and Benfica.
He was credited with keeping Getafe in the BBVA Primera Liga in his season at the club and moved to Valencia, where he was sacked two months into his third season in charge.
Most commentators believed that his dismissal was unfair given the financial chaos at the club.
After Valencia he joined Benfica, who he led to third place in Portugal last season, before having his contract terminated in June.
As a player Quique spent most of his career with Valencia and also with Real Madrid, so it will be interesting to see the reception he is given by the fans in Atletico's Vicente Calderon Stadium.
