ABUJA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- FIFA on Friday carried out random Magnetic Resonance Imaging scans on the teams that will be playing in Saturday's opening Group A matches.

FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke told reporters in Abuja that the results of the MRI tests will be made public and any player that fails would be dismissed from the competition.

He added that no further sanctions would be meted out on the player or his country.

According to Valcke, FIFA is adopting the pre-match testing in a bid to avoid protests that may come should an over-aged player feature in a match before he was screened out.

Valcke said for the first time FIFA would relax its rule on registration to allow teams fill in new players for those who may be caught in the MRI tests.

The 13th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup begins in Abuja with the opening match between Argentina and Honduras. The second match will be between defending champions Nigeria and Germany.

The Nigerian match will be preceded by an opening ceremony, which will showcase Nigeria's rich cultural heritage.

Africa will be represented by a record five teams - Nigeria, Algeria, Malawi, Gambia and Burkina Faso.
