JINAN, East China, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Olympic bronze medalist Yan Zi advanced to quarterfinals after beating her rival 2-1 at the Chinese National Games Friday.

    The No. 8 seed Yan downed Liang Chen from Jiangsu 6-3, 3-6 and 6-1 in the three sets.

    Liang is the tenth seed of the women's singles.

    "I know it would be a difficult match. We fought pretty hard last year," Yan said after the match.
