    JINA, East China ,Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Women's singles tennis player Peng Shuai defeated her rival and advanced to the quarterfinals Friday at the 11th Chinese National Games.

    Peng upset Sun Shengnan from the People's Liberation Army 6-3 and 6-4 in two straight sets.

    "It is a good chance to learn how to face pressure," the 22-year-old Peng, who represented Tianjin Province, said after the competition.

    She will team up with Xu Yifan to take on Ji Chunmei and Liang Chen from Jiangsu in the women's doubles in the afternoon.

    In the earlier team events, Peng led the Tianjin team to claim the gold medal in July.
