BISHKEK, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyevon Thursday issued a decree, approving the new cabinet submitted by the newly-appointed Prime Minister Daniyar Usenov.

The security service and foreign ministry would now be under direct control of the presidency.

Measures also included the dismissal of 40 percent of public sector workers, according to Kabar news agency.

The new government structure was also approved Thursday by Kyrgyzstan's parliament.

On Wednesday, Bakiyev named his chief of staff, Usenov, as prime minister after the previous cabinet resigned Tuesday over Bakiyev's government reform plans.

Bakiyev said the reform would streamline the government and save more than 500 million soms (11.5 million U.S. dollars) in budget funds.

But the opposition charged that the reform plans were aimed at boosting the president's power.

Usenov, 49, was former first deputy prime minister and one of Bakiyev's allies during the 2005 protests that toppled then-President Askar Akayev and brought Bakiyev and his team to power.
