HUA HIN, Thailand, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- The East Asia Community proposed by Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama is so far only an idea and more contents have to be discussed, said Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya here Thursday.
Speaking at a press briefing after a ministerial meeting of ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Kasit urged countries proposing such communities to come out with more clear-cut ideas.
Australia also proposed for a long time the initiative of establishing an Asia Pacific community.
This has been raised many times, so it is the question of discussing it further into details, the foreign minister said.
The more cooperation, the better for peace, security and progress of the ordinary ASEAN citizens, he said.
Asian leaders will gather in Thailand this weekend for the East Asia Summit, which brings together the 10 members of the ASEAN, as well as China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand.
The ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
