JINAN, East China, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tennis women's dual Peng Shuai and Xu Yifan from Tianjin easily passed their rivals and booked a quarterfinal berth at the 11th Chinese National Games Thursday.
Peng and Xu, the second seed in the women's doubles, downed Bai Qian and Zhong Yi from Hubei 6-1 and 6-0 in the two sets.
Yet Peng, one of the nation's best women players, said pressure for the national meet mounted as the tournament only held once in four years.
"I don't have many chances to represent my home province, and they have high expectations on me," she said.
The 23-year-old Peng took the Tianjin team all the way through to win a gold medal in the team's event, which was held earlier in July. The team event's gold was also Peng's first national title.
Peng took part in all the three events -- singles, doubles and mixed doubles -- in this tournament. Later on Thursday, Peng will team up with Li Zhe to take on Zeng Shaoxuan and Liang Chen of Jiangsu in the mixed doubles event in the quarter-finals.
