Schoolgirl dies in SW China police car crash

    KUNMING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- A primary-school girl was killed and four people were injured when a police car collided with four vehicles in southwest China's Yunnan Province, local officials said Thursday.

    The accident occurred at 6 p.m. on Wednesday near the People's Park in Zhenxiong County, Zhaotong City, after a police vehicle ran into a Mazda car, a cab and two minibuses, said an official surnamed Zhang with the county committee of the Communist Party of China.

    A fifth-grade girl, who was walking home, died at the scene. The injured were rushed to hospital and were in stable condition, Zhang said.

    The driver, a policeman with the Tangfang police station, had been detained and police were investigating the accident, Zhang said.
