ROME, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Members of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Committee on World Food Security (CFS) agreed on Tuesday on a wide-ranging reform, aiming to make the CFS the foremost comprehensive international and intergovernmental platform dealing with food security and nutrition.

    The reform envisages broader participation of UN organizations tackling food security issue such as the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Program (WFP) and the UN Secretary-General's High-Level Task Force on the Global Food Security Crisis.

    The CFS will also include other international organizations, civil society, non-governmental organizations, and private sector associations, FAO said.

    Another important part of the reform is that the CFS will receive advice from a high-level panel of experts on food security and nutrition to ensure a scientific basis for solutions to hunger.

    "The CFS reform shows that the international community is committed to pay more attention to the elimination of hunger and poverty," FAO Assistant Director-General Hafez Ghanem said.

    "Creating this important global platform means that we are building a better home for global food security including governments, international institutions, researchers, civil society and the private sector," he added.

    The reform comes ahead of the World Summit on Food Security, scheduled for Nov. 16-18 in Rome when world leaders gather to search for solutions to eradicate world famine.
