STOCKHOLM, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The first fatal A/H1N1 flu case was reported in Iceland, according to reports reaching here from Reykjavik on Tuesday.
"An 18-year-old multihandicapped girl, who was infected with the A/H1N1 virus, died Monday morning at Barnaspitali Hringsins children's hospital in Reykjavik. This is the first fatality due to the swine flu epidemic in Iceland," said Iceland's electronic newspaper The Iceland Review.
The report said the girl fell ill 11 days earlier and was admitted to hospital on Thursday. The treatment for the girl, both at home and at the hospital, had been very good and in keeping with the circumstances. The main reason of death is believed to be a long-term lung disease that the girl had suffered from.
From June 29 to Oct. 18 this year, 3,660 reports on A/H1N1-likesymptoms had been received and 479 people were confirmed infected in Iceland.
In Iceland's neighboring countries, eight people have died fromA/H1N1 flu in Norway and two in Sweden. Denmark has no fatal case until now.
