JINAN, East China, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Sun Tiantian, the Athens Olympic women's doubles gold medalist, said she will not retire after the 11th Chinese National Games on Tuesday.

Representing Henan province, Sun partnered Yang Yifan to down Hong Kong pair Yu Xiaodong and Yang Zijun 2-0 in the first round of mixed doubles.

At 28, Sun said she will fight on.

"As we know, the career for a tennis player is short. If I feel the training, competition and travel too much for me, I will have no choice but to retire."

Ranked 82nd in WTA doubles standings, Sun claimed women's doubles title with Li Ting at the Athens Olympics. Her partner Li retired in 2007.

She told Xinhua if the country needs her, she would compete in the Asian Games next year. "For myself, of course I hope to participate," she added.

As the third seed in women's doubles tournament, she said it's possible for her to make breakthrough both in singles and doubles this time.

This is the fourth time Sun had competed in the National Games. She won a silver in women's doubles at the ninth National Games anda bronze in singles and women's team four years ago.
