COTABATO, Philippines, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Philippine soldiers on Saturday seized a large cache of weapons that includes parts for roadside bombs in the volatile south, the military said Sunday.
Soldiers uncovered assaulted firearms and 20 improvised land mines as they captured encampment belonging to New Peoples Army in the village of Busdi Malaybalay city shortly before 2:00 a.m., said regional military spokesperson Maj. Mitchele Anayron Jr.
The army official said troops also seized materials for pipe bombs.
The NPA, with some 5,000 members, has been waging a guerrilla campaign in the countryside for four decades.
Peace talks between the government and the leftists bogged down in 2004 after the United States classified the NPA and its parent body as terrorist organizations.
