    CAIRO, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Ten-man Ghana stunned Brazil after a penalty shots 4-3 win on Friday to become the first African team to claim the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

    Ghana lifted the trophy before the 67,000 fans at Cairo Stadium.

    Few minutes before the end of the first half, Addo of Ghana was sent off before the two teams ended the regular time with a goalless draw despite efforts from both sides.

    Brazil's Kardec was close to end the deadlock at the 58th minute when Ghana's goalkeeper saved Kardec's header from inside the box.

    The two teams played a goalless extra time before starting the penalty shots.

    Brazil's Alan Kardec, Giuliano, D. Costa, converted their penalty shots but Souza, Maicon and Teixeira saw their penalties saved by the goalkeeper.

    Ghana's Mensah and Addae saw their penalties saved by the goalkeeper while Ayew, Inkoom, Adiyah and Badu converted their penalty shots to end the match 4-3 for their team.

    Ghana's striker, Dominic Adiyiah, was named the best player of the competition as he scored nine goals.

    Before the match, Ghana's coach Sellas Tetteh said, "We're not surprised by our performance because we really played well in the qualifying competition. It doesn't matter who we meet next. We are90 minutes away from the trophy."

    After the match, Tetteh said that his team deserved to win the championship because his team made great efforts.

    Earlier on Friday, Hungary beat Costa Rica 3-1 to take bronze.
