CHENGDU, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- An 18-hour Tibetan-language satellite TV channel is expected to be launched on Oct. 28 in southwest China's Sichuan Province, a local official said Thursday.
The channel is the third Tibetan-language satellite TV channel in the country after two similar channels in Tibet Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province, where most of 5 million Tibetan minorities live, said He Daxin, head of the Sichuan Provincial Administration of Radio, Film and Television.

The channel, broadcast 18 hours a day, will use the Sichuan Provincial TV Station logo and broadcast with the Kamba language, one of the three major Tibetan dialects. The Qinghai Tibetan-language channel use the Amdo dialect and the channel in Tibet use the Weizang dialect, he said.
The new channel will cover 2.4 million Kamba-speaking population in Sichuan, Tibet, Qinghai, Yunnan and Gansu through satellite, cable TV and wireless transmitters, he said.
The channel broadcast programs of news, art, weather and dubbed TV soap operas, he said.
Wanggyai Lhamo, 25, who just got her master degree from the Minzu University of China based in Beijing, was one of the four anchors of the channel.
"It has long been my dream to be a host using my own language," said she, host of two art programs.
Han language channel of Tibet TV to broadcast around clock
BEIJING, Sept. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- The Han language channel of the Tibet TV Station will soon operate around the clock as a present for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
With the increasing influence of the Tibetan and Han language channels, the Tibet TV Station has drawn up a detailed plan for setting up an international Tibetan language channel.
Tibetan language animations for kids start on Tibet TV
BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- The Tibetan language channel of Tibet TV Station in Lhasa, capital of Tibet, started an animation program for kids on Oct. 1.
The program is broadcasted at 18:40 each day and repeated at 09:40 the next day.
17 from central media organizations begin aid-Tibet mission
BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Seventeen media workers selected by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) went to Tibet recently to start half a year of aid-Tibet work.
This move is to improve the quality of Tibet's radio and TV programs and training of talents in the radio and TV industry.
