BAGHDAD, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and 42 others injured in three coordinated bomb explosions in the Shiite holy city of Karbala on Wednesday, a well-informed police source said.
Three explosive charges went off successively in two main streets and a crowded parking lot in central Karbala, some 110 km south of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The death toll could rise, as many victims were transported to hospitals and medical centers in the city, the source said.
Several vehicles were seen badly damaged or charred at the sites, he said, adding that Iraqi security forces cordoned off the scenes of the blasts where human flesh and blood stains scattered.
Sporadic attacks continue in Iraq as part of recent deterioration in security which shapes a setback to the efforts of the Iraqi government to restore normalcy in the country after U.S. troops pulled out of cities and towns over three months ago.
