MEXICO CITY, Oct.13 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Felipe Calderon said Tuesday that the A/H1N1 influenza lethality rate has dropped to 2.4 percent in May and to about 0.61 percent currently.

    "Fortunately in our country, from the first outbreak until now, the virus's impact has dropped significantly," said Calderon during the inauguration ceremony of a hospital in Puebla state in central Mexico.

    Calderon said the death rate of A/H1N1 flu is now about 0.61 percent. He attributed the drop of the rate to preventive measures applied, adequate antiviral medicine, and the medical treatment that is done "with care and promptitude."

    Calderon also urged Mexicans to double preventive efforts and resume preventive measures to avoid the spread of the virus.

    On Monday, Mexico's Health Ministry reported a total of 255 deaths caused by A/H1N1 flu in the country since the disease broke out in April this year.
