NAIROBI, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- In charges that could inflame the already volatile relationship between German coach Antoine Hey and an entire country, a former top football official alleged on Tuesday that the Kenya football team head coach had been contracted by another team.

Hussein Swaleh, who was once general secretary of Kenya Football Federation (KFF) and an associate of the German coach dramatically, claimed that Hey had agreed a two-year deal with Egyptian club side, Arab Contractors.

"He does not care whether Harambee Stars (Kenya's national football team) qualify for Angola or not. Hey has already agreed terms with the Egyptians and will leave the country after they play their final match against Nigeria next month," Swaleh alleged.

He went on to reveal that Hey would have left the team in July had the Kenyan government not settled the 68,421 U.S. dollars they owed him in unpaid dues, "but they agreed to wait until the 2010 World Cup/Africa Nations Cup qualifiers are over after he was paid".

Swaleh, who acted as Hey's agent was indeed the one who ferried the money to the German tactician who had staged a sit in at the country's main Jomo Kenyatta International Airport before departure to Lagos.

Responding to his claims, Mohammed Hatimy, chair of Football Kenya Limited (FKL), the body that took over management of the national team from KFF, said, "I need three days to investigate the matter but Hey did not fulfill his contractual obligations by not returning with the team. He is playing a crucial match against Nigeria in three weeks time and he needed to be here."

He was also reacting to the fact that for a second successive time, Hey has failed to return with his squad, opting to fly to his native Germany and resume his duties after a fortnight.

Kenya lost 1-0 to Tunisia in Maputo to leave them needing to beat World Cup-spot-chasing Nigeria at home next month with the North Africans beating Mozambique away in Maputo for them to qualify for the Nations Cup.

Since he took over in February, the former Gabon and Liberia head coach has only won one match in Group B, a 2-1 labored home victory over Mozambique that leaves Stars bottom of the log on three points.

His decision to fail to accompany the team has not gone down well with the Kenyan public and this latest reports could further exacerbate matters.
