      Frankfurt, Germany, Oct. 13 (Xinhua)-- The Frankfurt Book Fair 2009 opens Tuesday in Frankfurt, Germany, with China as its Guest of Honor.

    The book fair, from October 13 to 18, is the world's largest and most important of its kind, with over 400,000 books from more than 100 countries, and with over 180,000 international trade visitors and 124,000 new releases.

    Some 270 publishers and over 2,000 traders from the Chinese mainland are participating in this year's book fair, setting up a new record.

Chinese vice president calls for enhancing cultural exchanges at Frankfurt Book Fair

   FRANKFURT, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for enhancing cultural exchanges to boost world peace at the opening ceremony of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

    Xi, together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, witnessed the opening of the 61st version of the Frankfurt Book Fair, the world's biggest annual book fair. China has been selected as the Guest of Honor for this year's fair. Full story


Frankfurt book fair opens to "define future book world"

    FRANKFURT, Germany, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The renowned Frankfurt Book Fair opened its 2009 edition on Tuesday, saying its goal was to "define the future landscape of the book world."

    The fair, to last till Sunday, has drawn more than 400,000 titles of books from more than 100 countries and attracted 180,000 booksellers and dealers. Of the books on display, 120,000 are new releases. Full story

Frankfurt book fair midwife for appreciation of Chinese literature: Expert 

    FRANKFURT, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Frankfurt Book Fair, the world's largest, would be "helpful to bring Chinese literature into the world," Veronika Licher, a German publishing expert, said Monday.

    This year's Frankfurt Book Fair, which opens Tuesday, has selected China as its Guest of Honor. Hundreds of promotion programs have been organized by the Chinese side and its German host to allow international publishers and local readers to become better acquainted with Chinese culture and literature.
