RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Botafogo recovered from two goals down to tie Avai 2-2 in the 29th round of the Brazilian soccer championship on Monday.

    Avai were off to a good start as Emerson headed in the team's first goal in the 37th minute, followed by William who cleaned up a loose ball in front of the Botafogo net in the 44th minute.

    Botafogo took their time, but finally responded in the 61st minute when Victor Simoes timed the ball into the back of the Avainet. In the 75th minute, Simoes scored the tying goal when a loose ball found its way to the striker's feet, blasting it into the back of the net.

    With the tie, Botafogo collected 32 points and remains in 16th place. For Avai, the tie dropped them to 12th place with 40 points.
