HONG KONG, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- A 79-year-old male patient with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure died here Sunday, not long after he was confirmed to have contracted the A/H1N1 flu, bringing the total number of A/H1N1-related deaths to 30 in the city, medical authorities announced Monday.

    According to a spokesman from the Hospital Authority, the man was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital on Oct. 3 after developing flu-like symptoms. He was given Tamiflu and antibiotics on the same day. As his condition deteriorated on Oct. 5, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for further treatment with ventilation support.

    The spokesman said the patient tested positive for the A/H1N1 flu on Oct. 6 and was certified dead at 7:36 pm on Sunday, adding that the case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Center for Health Protection.

    The spokesman also noted four new critical cases of confirmed A/ H1N1 flu emerged on the same day, and the patients involved included a 47-year-old female patient with asthma in the Prince of Wales Hospital, a 45-year-old male patient with nasopharyngeal cancer in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, a 36-year-old female patient with bronchiectasis in the United Christian Hospital, and a 14-year-old female patient with cerebral palsy in the Tuen Mun Hospital.
