BANGKOK, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The first day of imposing the Internal Security Act (ISA) at venues of the ASEAN Summit and its related meetings is smoothly going on, Veera Sriwattanatrakul governor of a southern province of Prachuab Khiri Khan said Monday.

Thailand, which holds the 2009 chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN, will also host the 15th ASEAN Summit and related meetings during Oct. 23-25 in southern beach resort town Cha-am and Hua Hin.

However, the Thai government has started enforcing the ISA law from Monday ahead of the kick-off of the ASEAN Summit as the ISA use will end on Oct. 27.

The ISA law is smoothly enforced in Hua Hin and Cha-am, Thai News Agency quoted Veera as saying.

Involved parties will also attempt to improve traffic areas in Hua Hin and Cha-am ahead of the start of the Summit, the governor said.

The ISA enforcement is to ensure law and order during the region 's important Summit and its related meetings as over 18,000 security men have been prepared to deploy to ensure security during the ASEAN Summit.

In mid-April this year, the ASEAN Summit and related meetings in central resort town Pattaya were canceled due to violent protests by thousands of members of the Thai anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship.
