KHARTOUM, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Sudanese government Sunday affirmed keenness to normalize its relations with Chad, implement the agreements the two countries previously signed and commit to good neighborliness policy.
"We have renewed our commitment to the agreements we had previously signed and affirmed that there is no need for new agreements. What is needed now is commitment and determination to implement the agreements," said Sudanese Presidential Adviser Ghazi Salahuddin in a press statement upon his return from the Chadian capital of N'djamena.
The Sudanese official described his visit to Chad and his meeting with Chadian President Idriss Deby as "opening of a new page" in bilateral relations, adding "this will positively reflect on Sudan, in general, and the region of Darfur, in particular."
He explained that his talks with Deby focused on the suspending issues between the two countries and how to resolve them.
"President Deby has expressed deep feelings towards the Sudanese-Chadian relations and expressed regret over what these relations have encountered in the past. He vowed to work with Sudan to put the bilateral relations on the right track, and on basis of good-will principles," he said.
The Sudanese presidential adviser started Saturday a sudden visit to the Chadian capital and was accompanied by governors of North and West Darfur States and officials from the Foreign Ministry and the National Security and Intelligence Service.
This is the first visit by a senior Sudanese official to Chad since the two countries severed their diplomatic ties a year ago after they trade accusations over each other of supporting the rebel groups along the borderline between the two countries.
