Defending champion Li Xiaoxia ousted in group stage

    GUANGZHOU, Southeast China, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Japan's glamorous Fukuhara Ai produced an upset win over Chinese defending champion Li Xiaoxia in the group stage third round at women's table tennis World Cup here on Sunday.

    Li, who managed a full-set victory in the first two matches in group stage, had an easy start by taking the opening set 11-2, but FukuharaAi responded to win the next three sets. Li dominated in the fifth set. In the sixth set, Fukuhara went ahead 8-4 and held on to her lead to win it 11-6.

    Despite losing her third match at the World Cup, Li still earned a berth in the quarter-finals, which is due to be held on Sunday evening.
