LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A week-old wildfire, which prompted evacuations in the resort town of Wrightwood outside Los Angeles, is near full containment, authorities announced on Saturday.

Aided by cooler temperatures, firefighters have contained 98 percent of the blaze in the San Bernardino Mountains on Saturday, the U.S. Forest Service said.

The fire has burned at least five structures and more than 11 square miles (17.6 kilometers) of brush and timber, according to the service.

The forest service posted an order prohibiting the public from entering the burn area until Nov. 8 at least.

The fire, which broke out last Sunday, forced the evacuation of about 6,000 residents in Wrightwood, about 70 miles (about 112 kilometers) northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

More than 400 firefighters were assigned to the blaze, which has cost about 8.8 million dollars to fight so far.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
