Senior Chinese leader calls for strengthened efforts in judicial work

    BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese leader Saturday called for strengthened efforts to improve the country's judicial work, under the guidance of the theory and spirit summed up during the fourth plenary session of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

    Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, urged at a meeting in Beijing nationwide legal organs to launch socialist rule of law concept education and adhere to the socialist judicial system with Chinese characteristics.

    He also called for all judicial cadres and policemen to enforce the laws for the people, help those most needed people solve practical problems and provide legal services for them, in order to maintain social justice.

    Zhou emphasized that each legal organ at grass root levels should have a competent leadership and qualified working staffs with a scientific management system.

    He also stressed the importance of Party building in judicial work.

    "The judicial organs are the last defense line to protect the people's life and property safety and to maintain social justice," Zhou said, "and thus a reliable judicial team should be fostered to maintain the trust from both the Party and the people".
