SANAA, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Yemeni pharmaceutical company YEDCO developed an anti-virus drug against A/H1N1 flu, Yemeni official news agency SABA reported Thursday night.

The drug called "Aviflu" is the same use as "Tamiflu" which was invented by a Switzerland company years ago, said General Director of the High Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplements Abdul-Monem al-Hakami.

"Tamiflu" is an anti-virus drug used for seasonal flu, which was approved by the World Health Organization (WH0) as an anti-virus drug against the A/H1N1 flu and bird flu.

A number of companies around the world have been licensed to produce "Tamiflu" now.

YEDCO's general manager Mohammed Abdul-Kader said a specialized Yemeni medical team has conducted lots of medical studies and tests in the company in line with the international medical standard.

The new medicine is now available in a number of local pharmacies and hospitals, he added.
