PADANG, Indonesia, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- The number of fatalities of the 7.6-magnitude quake in West Sumatra of Indonesia has reached to 704 and some 295 others are still missing, the provincial Disaster Management Agency said Wednesday.
The provincial Disaster Management Agency said the quake collapsed 102,646 houses, and damaged 1104,770 others.
The powerful tremor also damaged many school buildings, hospitals and roads.
Indonesia with over 230 million populations sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone where is so called the Pacific Ring of Fire. Earthquakes and volcanic movements often occur in the country.
