ABIDJAN, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- The provisional voter list for the elections scheduled for Nov. 29 in Cote d'Ivoire was officially handed over to President Laurent Gbagbo on Tuesday, Xinhua's bureau in Abidjan was told.

The box containing the analyzed data on the process of identification of the population and the electoral census was handed over to President Gbagbo by Prime Minister Guillaume Soro at a ceremony held at State House in Abidjan.

According to Oliver Charlane, the director of the African office of Sagem Security which is the company in charge of the operation, the provisional list has 6,384,816 registered voters.

The census includes 2,678,069 people previously recorded in the2000 list, accounting for 41 percent.

New voters number 904,858 on the current provisional list, among them 49,708 integrated foreigners.

Charlane said 2,752,181 people registered this time do not feature anywhere in the historical records, especially the 2000 voter list and even in the files of "fused Ivorians."

The data on the process of identification and the electoral census was processed in 70 centers of coordination opened across the country. This allowed the French private technical operator, Sagem Security, and the Ivorian public technical bodies like the National Institute of Statistics (NIS), National office of Identification (NOI) and the institution in charge of organizing elections, the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), to finalize the analysis of the information collected.

The provisional electoral list will be given to political parties and then posted on the Internet and published in all the centers of registration, to make sure no contentious issues are left before the final version is published for the election to end the West African country's protracted crisis.
