HAVANA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Cuba has not registered any case of chicken influenza, Jose Joaquin Oreamuno, sub-regional representative of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), announced Tuesday.
"Except Guatemala and El Salvador, countries where there have been detected chicken flu cases of low pathogenicity, the rest of the Central American and Caribbean nations are free of that disease," Oreamuno said.
Oreamuno was visiting Havana to attend the 21st Latin American Congress on Poultry Farming, which was opened on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Emerio Serrano, director general of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of Cuba, said Cuba was free of chicken flu thanks to the prophylactic measures of veterinarians, production forces and the general public.
The country's citizens had taken measures like not putting poultry products from the affected countries on the market and keeping alert to detect the spread of the virus, Serrano added.
