MANAGUA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The child death toll for classic and hemorrhagic dengue in Nicaragua has risen to nine, the country's health authorities reported Tuesday.

The dengue in Nicaragua was on the rise, with a total of 1,532 registered cases, including 1,503 classic cases. The remaining cases were hemorrhagic dengue, said Enrique Beteta, secretary general of the Health Ministry.

"We must insist that people contribute (to the fight against dengue) by eliminating the mosquitoes and larvae, allowing the entrance of the health brigades to the houses," Beteta urged.

Beteta added that the A/H1N1 influenza pandemic had infected 2,068persons in Nicaragua, claiming 11 lives. Among the infected, 2,039 had recovered, while 18 were still undergoing medical treatment.

"Despite the A/H1N1 flu having a low aggressive behavior, different to the one five weeks ago, we are keeping alert because a combination of flu and dengue will represent a very grave situation," Beteta said.
