VANCOUVER, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Canadian government is committed to building a "forward-looking, principled and meaningful" relationship with China for many years to come, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper wrote recently.

The article, "Future of Canada-China Relation," was published in the October issue of the Vancouver-based English-language monthly China Business, which is especially designed to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China as well as the 39th anniversary of the Canada-China diplomatic relations.

In his article, Harper hailed the increasingly prosperous relationship between the two countries. He said with the approach of the anniversary date of Canada's established diplomatic relations with China, which falls on Oct. 13, "there is much to be optimistic about."

Harper said China is one of the world's fastest growing economies and could become the world's largest economy by 2025. The Chinese market offers many opportunities for Canadian companies.

To help Canadian companies to take advantage of the trade and investment opportunities, the Canadian government has increased Canada's presence in China, said Harper, adding that two new trade offices have been opened in Chengdu and Shenzhen respectively with four others expected to open later this years in Nanjing, Qingdao, Shenyang and Wuhan respectively.

He expressed hope that the two countries could move forward on a number of key trade fields such as investment, technology cooperation and the Asia-Pacific Gateway.

To this end, Harper said, the government has tried and will continue to showcase Canada as "an interested and engaged innovation partner" and to promote Canada as a supplier of high-quality goods and services for China.

Harper pledged to continue to look at ways to remove barriers for Canadian companies aiming to do business in China.

Beside trade links, Harper also noted that Canada has provided assistance and aid to the Chinese people after the devastating earthquake in China's Sichuan province last year.

He said Canada is one of the largest foreign donors to the relief efforts with a combined donation of about 75 million Canadian dollars (69.85 million U.S. dollars).
