CONAKRY, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Guinea is not affiliated to any power, said Captain Moussa Dadis Camara, head of junta in Guinea when reacting to the Monday declaration by French Foreign Affairs Minister Bernard Kouchner.
"Guinea is not a sub-department of France, not a district of France or any other power," Captain Camara pointed out, as reported by a French news channel France 24.
The head of junta in Guinea said he is ready to "dialogue" with French President Nicolas Sarkozy but affirmed that he does not see the need to "respond to a Foreign Affairs minister".
As expressed in the Grand Jury, Le Figaro-LCI-RTL, Kouchner declared on Sunday that France will not work with the junta in Guinea after the Sept. 28 massacre, and called for "international community's intervention" in this West African nation, a former French colony.
Captain Camara was responding to Kouchner when he welcomed Burkina Faso's president Blaise Compaore who arrived in the country on Monday.
Compaore has been designated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as the facilitator in the Guinean crisis. He is supposed to bring together the authorities and the pressure groups in Guinea with the hope of renewing the dialogue spirit.
According to the authorities, the events of Sept. 28 led to a loss of about 57 lives whereas the human rights groups say more than 150 people lost their lives.
After a "quiet" week following the massacre, activities have started to slowly pick up in the capital Conakry, according to a Xinhua correspondent in the capital.
On Monday, long queues were seen in banks like BICIGUI and ECOBANK, and also at the bus stops. It confirms that activities are resuming, however, at the service stations, there is still a lot of suspicion.
Beside that, it's worth noting the opening of businesses and the free movement even along Enco 5-Hamdalaye highway, the main road for the Protestants, where the violent scenes took place on Sept. 28.
