JAKARTA, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia is scheduled to hold a dialogue on the history of Indonesia and Malaysia aimed at reducing tensions between the two countries following Malaysia's claim on several Indonesia's cultural heritage, the Antara news agency reported here on Monday.
The dialogue will be opened by Vice President Jusuf Kalla in Pekanbaru, the capital city of Indonesia's border province to Malaysia, Riau, on Wednesday.
The dialogue will be organized by the Indonesian Historians Community (MSI) and the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) in cooperation with the Malaysian Historians Community (MSM).
EPG spokesman Musni Umar said the dialogue would be organized to find a common solution to the problems related to Malaysian claims on Indonesian cultural heritage items.
"The objective of the dialog is to give the people of the two countries an understanding based on historical facts and awareness of their common origin," Musni Umar said.
According to him, disharmony in the relations between Indonesia and Malaysia in the last decade was incited by Malaysia's claims on several Indonesian cultural heritage items, such as folk songs, traditional dances, arts, food products, and cloth products.
He said the will be attended by around 100 cultural experts and historians of the two countries who would share cultural views and history of the two countries.
Musni said that the would-be held dialogue is fully endorsed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.
