MOSCOW, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday expressed cautious optimism about the results of Geneva talks on Iran's nuclear program, Russian news agencies reported.
"The results inspire cautious optimism," Lavrov said during a visit to Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia.
"Now the most important thing is to make sure these agreements are fully and timely implemented," he was quoted as saying by Interfax.
The foreign minister also said the next round of talks would beheld later this month.
Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili on Thursday held talks with top envoys from the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany.
During the talks, Jalili promised that Tehran would soon open its newly-disclosed uranium-enrichment facility near Qom to UN inspectors, according to EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, who coordinated the talks.
The meeting in Geneva came shortly after news of the second Iranian uranium enrichment site had led to calls for harsher sanctions against Tehran.
Western powers suspect Iran of attempting to build nuclear weapons, but Tehran says its nuclear program is aimed at generating nuclear energy for civilian purposes.
