BEIJING, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Worldwide media have lauded the massive celebration on Tiananmen Square commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Singapore's leading newspaper, the Straits Times, said on Friday that China's 60th anniversary was a shining moment and an act which marked China's transformation into a global power.

The newspaper said in its front page story that China rolled out its sophisticated weaponry, backed by 8,000 goose-stepping soldiers and an eye-catching formation of sub-machine gun toting women volunteer troops in pink uniforms set off by white berets and boots.

"The weapons showed China's dramatic progress in the last 10 years. The People's Liberation Army is a modernized force now," BoZhiyue, analyst of Singapore's East Asian Institute was quoted as saying in the report.

Vietnamese newspaper Labor commented on Friday that the unprecedented large-scale military parade, part of China's grand National Day celebration, confirmed the position of China as a global power and the world's third largest economy.

The newspaper said the speech of Chinese President Hu Jintao delivered at the ceremony had shown that Chinese people were confident about a bright future and the country's strong development.

Vietnamese newspaper People's Army reported that the modern weapons China displayed at the parade had drawn wide attention. The newspaper The Youth said China showed it had a large and powerful army.

Greek newspapers printed extensive stories on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the PRC on Thursday, showing the intense interest in China and the "new position of Beijing as a world superpower."

The daily Eleftherotypia noted that "China demands a stronger international role," which was expressed in the Beijing Olympics and was boosted by its role in tackling the global financial crisis.

The Greek newspaper Vima added that "the celebrations surpass the spectacular ceremonies in 2008 for the opening and closing of the Olympic Games... and in a way prove the 'formula' for the Chinese Communist Party state and rapid development."

Quoting a line from the editorial of the People's Daily, "stepping from poverty to the general prosperity, China has never been so strong", Greek daily Ethnos underlined that the military parade attracted great interest by foreign military analysts.

French daily Le Figaro said on Thursday the massive parade in China had shown an image of a country that was rising and had decided to play a more significant role in the international community.

Romanian daily Adevarul said "this is a perfect military parade," saying that every detail was impeccable.

China had shown its most modern weapons to the world through the grand, ordered and perfect parade, the paper said.

The Togolese newspaper Togo-Presse Thursday said China and its leaders had realized great progress in every field in the past six decades.

The historic reform in the fields of economy, society, science and technology, and culture has made China become an influential power, which has attracted global attention, it said.

Saudi Arabian media said the unprecedented parade had fully shown that China was returning to the international scene as a world power.

As a country of abundant resources, China's strength was growing, the media said, adding that the People's Liberation Army had become a high-tech and modern military.

Publishing a Xinhua picture of the celebration, the official Syrian daily as-Saoura described the celebration as "unprecedented," saying "it aroused Chinese people's patriotism."

The whole celebration highlighted China's strength in the new century, the paper added.

The media in Cuba, Finland, Russia, Cambodia and the Philippines also reported and hailed the celebration and achievements made by China during the past 60 years.
