NEW YORK, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The New York Philharmonic has canceled a controversial concert series in Havana, Cuba, New York local TV channel NY1 reported Thursday.
A statement released by the orchestra says the U.S. government's travel restrictions are affecting its supporters, and without their financial support, the trip is not possible, says the report.
About 150 patrons and supporters had pledged to pay about 10,000 dollars each to accompany the orchestra on the trip to Cuba.
The concerts had tentatively been scheduled for October 30 through November 2.
The Philharmonic says it will reschedule the concerts when those travel restrictions are resolved.
Washington and Havana have been at odds since Fidel Castro took control of Cuba 50 years ago.
