BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Liu Qi, secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, announced the start of a grand rally in central Beijing Thursday morning to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Hu Jintao reviews Chinese troops
BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Hu Jintao on Thursday morning reviewed Chinese troops in central Beijing as the country celebrated the 60th National Day.
Standing in a black open-roof limousine on Chang'an Avenue, Hu was greeted by Fang Fenghui, commander-in-chief of the full-dress military parade. Fang reported: "Comrade chairman, assembly of the reviewing troops is completed, please review!" Full story

Aircraft take off to fly over Tian'anmen Square
BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The aircraft to overfly the Chang'an Avenue and Tian'anmen Square at the end of a military parade took off from their bases Thursday morning and headed for the center stage of China's National Day celebration in downtown Beijing.
All the the 151 fighters, bombers, helicopters and other types of military planes, led by an Early Warning and Control Aircraft, will meet at their rendezvous point to build up 12 aerial formations. Full story
